Creating a Wildlife Sanctuary from a Bare Field
An illustrated talk by one of our founder members, Chris Whitehurst, on his long-term project.
Thursday, 9th October 2025 – 7.30pm
Perhaps the first local re-wilding scheme, the project started back in 2004 when an idea was born to buy an acre of land and plant trees as a contribution towards climate change mitigation.
At first there was nothing on the site except nettles, thistles, docks, grass and the odd crow.
The project has provided many opportunities to learn new skills, and gain a deeper insight into nature.
Twenty one years on, the site is now a haven for wildlife.
