A big thank you to all our thirty or so helpers who turned out yesterday, and got wet, to make this weekend a success in setting out the framework for the rally.
Putting up enclosures for each section is done, both rings have the legally required safety fencing and seating is in place. Nearly two hundred caravan pitches are marked out for exhibitors. Portaloos are on site, and the shower block is expected later this week.
We also welcomed our first traction engine, the first of hopefully fifty by the weekend.
We have been asked about the flypast. Sadly, our request to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was not successful, as they are not flying in our area over the rally weekend. The Anson is being serviced at present, and it’s down on fuel pressure on one engine, so it will not be flying. But… subject to the weather (and we remember how last year’s Lancaster was cancelled due to low cloud and rain), we may see a Yakovlev Yak-3 in the air. This looks like a Spitfire but with a different engine. So fingers crossed.
