GATES OPEN 9am – 4.30PM BOTH DAYS

The first Malpas Yesteryear Rally was held in 1972, and compared with its current size, was a relatively modest affair. It was organised by a small group of enthusiasts who lived in the Malpas area. The focus was on a working event, with corn being cut by the binder and threshed using steam power on the rally field. Tractors were popular exhibits, as were local steam engines.
We hoped to attach some photographs of our first rally, but as most of the original members are no longer with us, this has proved difficult. However, we have dug out some which we think were taken in 1972. Apologies for the quality.
In later years, as it grew in size, the rally moved to the Cholmondeley Estate, and then to the parkland of the Hanmer Estate for a number of years. Thereafter it returned to the Malpas area and has been held on its current site for some twenty years or so.

Although in calendar years, this is not strictly the 50th, it is actually our 50th rally. Some years were missed for various reasons, such as the Foot and Mouth disease outbreak etc.
Moving on to this year’s event, we hope to have up to fifty engines in steam and also doing what they were built to do in the working area. We are also hoping to have some of the original exhibits, but with the passage of time, this is proving difficult. Any help locating these would be appreciated.
As with last year, we plan to have a flyover by the Avro Anson and also a visit from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. At this stage, on which days this may happen hasn’t been decided. Sadly last year, the weather got the better of us on the Sunday. So, we thank all our visitors, many of whom have been supporting us for many years, and look forward to welcoming you again this year. As with last year, early bird tickets with a 20% discount will be available online, and until midnight on Friday, 5th September.
